Reiki
is a practice of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the
experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui who died in 1926
Dr Usui was inspired to develop this healing system from ancient teachings, study, research and meditation. Following his many
years of study Dr Usui spent the rest of his life practising and teaching Reiki
Today
Reiki continues to be taught throughout the world by Reiki Masters who
have trained in the tradition passed down from Master
to student.
There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive Reiki
treatment, the only prerequisite is the desire
to be healed
The Japanese word Reiki means ‘Universal or Vital Energy’. Eastern
medicine has always recognised and worked with
this energy, which flows
through all living things and is vital to well-being. This energy is known as 'qi' or ‘ki’
in Japan, ‘chi’ in China
and ‘prana’ in India.
Like Reiki; Shiatsu, Acupuncture, Tai chi and Yoga are also based on the free-flow
of this energy in a person
Reiki
treatment from a qualified practitioner is a very simple and peaceful process.
The recipient simply lies down or sits to relax
and be as comfortable as
possible. There is no need to remove any clothing, as the Reiki energy will
pass through anything. The
practitioner will gently place their hands,
non-intrusively, in a series of positions, which will cover the whole body.
The
whole person is treated rather than any specific areas
A full treatment
usually lasts between 40 and 60 minutes
and is carried out fully clothed. Please wear lightweight, loose fitting
clothing and do not eat a big meal
beforehand
